Writing 400: Capstone project: finding your niche
I may have bit off more than I could chew for this final senior year writing project. The impetus for writing this piece was finding out my brother has Asperger's Syndrome my sophomore year of college. After I found that out, I suddenly saw autism related news everywhere. I was tutoring an autistic girl who is the daughter of two computer science engineers consistent with a report just released on NPR. Snyder released the state plan for autism in Michigan. The CDC Report came out that every 1 in 88 kids was diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder in the United States. UM was hosting an "Autism Speaks Back" conference on campus. At any rate, I wanted to delve into some science writing with this piece and intertwine my story with my brother with the research on autism, old and new. Unfortunately, I have to concede that I do not think it actually worked due to several factors, but mainly that I let the scope of my paper get far too wide.
